Services
Logos
My specialty is branding. I enjoy the process of learning about a business or service, be it new or established, and then distilling that into a unique and recognisable symbol that gives the brand an identity.
Graphic Design
I work across print and digital mediums. I’ve got extensive experience in book, report and magazine layout, exhibition graphics, social media graphics, promotional graphics, signage, stationery, and data visualisation (infographics).
Illustration
It’s not something I do as often as logos and graphic design, but I love it. I’m often lucky to be able to use my illustration skills within a branding project for clients, but I also offer this service as a standalone.
Websites
Not much exists in this world now without an online presence. I offer websites as part of a brand kit or as a standalone service. The preferred tools to build with are Squarespace and Shopify, but I use others when the need arises.
Jemma Cheer Design Company is a panel provider for the All-of-Government (AoG) Creative and Media Services contract.

Culture
Who is Jemma Cheer?
I’m Jemma Cheer. I grew up in Palmerston North. I started my graphic design company in 2013. Before self-employment, I worked as an in-house graphic designer at Destination Manawatū, the City Library, and freelanced for a variety of local clients before that. I studied at UCOL, earning a bachelor of applied visual imaging in 2009.
What tools do you use?
I predominantly work with my Macbook Pro, connected to a larger monitor when I’m in the studio. I use an iPad and Apple Pencil for most illustration work. I rely on my notepads, where every project begins. I use Adobe software and a variety of web platforms depending on each client’s needs.
Do you have staff?
The nature of my studio is elastic – every project requires a different amount of collaboration. This can vary from working within a group of consultants on a long-term research project to hiring photographers, web developers and writers for support on a project I’m leading. I have experience with managing creative staff and am happy to be flexible in my approach.
Sponsorship
Community is a core part of keeping creativity firing. In-kind sponsorship is a way I can contribute to the communities I enjoy outside of work. I currently support Creative Sounds, Arapuke Mountain Bike Park, Manawatū Mountain Bike Club, and Women & Business.
